What to Do When Content Marketing Gets Boring

Have you watched a boring film?

Or attended a boring lecture in collage?

Did you like it? Would you share it with your friends and connections?

Surely not.

Boring does not work. Your audience will move away at the speed of the exit click, and that is just around the corner.
Here, in this article, we will discuss several ways by which we can make our content marketing campaigns interesting.
Graphics – Rich on the images and catchy on the eyes.

Infographics is a popular medium of delivering content of the graphic format. It is rich in graphics, has enough details and facts and includes branding and sources at the bottom. Overall, infographics is a complete package which looks good, people like it and they love to share it.

There are other graphical formats available like slides for example which can also be a good replacement for the same old text.

Text based content – Content marketing is about delivering results, not just making it interesting. You need to calculate your ROI, your conversions and your reach. Text based content are cheap, they works and search engines love it. But that does not necessarily mean that it has to be boring.

Text can be made interesting too.

It is how you format your content. All you need are some small and catchy sentences, short paragraphs broken by catchy and viral worthy sub-heads. And perhaps a few relevant images for the visual delight.

It’s a simple recipe and yet very effective.

Images – Images helps a lot and especially on the social media.

On sites like Pinterest, if you provide a relevant image, your post will have a far greater chance to go viral. Even on the other social sites like twitter, facebook, Google+ etc. updates with images gets a lot more attention and engagement.
Case Studies – Everyone loves to know how you did it.

You had success, got sales and earned plenty of money. But how did you do it?

Dive into the details, explain in length about how you strategized and launched your campaign. What success you gained in the process and display your stats with charts and reports.

Case studies are very helpful; they are interesting so they get a good read which is followed by plenty of shares and comments. Then, your target advertisers and buyers see it and they all want you to repeat your success for their brands as well. So you get traffic, social shares, engagement and more sales.

Tell a Story – Content marketing does not necessarily has to be about information and stats.
People want to know more about your, about your business and especially about how you started. The early setbacks and hardship you faced and how you fought it all and become successful.

No story is boring and not worth listening. You just need to present it well.

If you aren’t a natural story teller, you might have to work harder. But that is no reason to not try at all.
Success stories always works.

Predict industry trends – If things still don’t work, fall back to what you do best.
It is your business, it is your domain. You know it well.

You got a successful business running because you know your job well. Bring back your old confidence and start working on something substantial and constructive.

Do a comprehensive review of the industry trends that are going to dominate the future of your niche. Provide a value packed content that just doesn’t have any alternative.

Try to make things less boring with real content. This might not work enough and you might start to wonder if it was worth it. But quality content is always worth its effort and remember that making it interesting is only one part of the job, the real objective of content marketing is still about delivering solid content.

Deliver in more formats and upcycle your old content:

Up-cycle is a term used for making something new out of old stuff. This is different from re-cycling where you completely destroy the old stuff.

You have boring content but you can make it less boring or perhaps even interesting by converting it into something good, like an infographic.

There are many formats and a piece of content can be used in multiple format types. You can make videos, slides, infographics, audio, PDF book etc.

However, with content marketing, at times you just don’t have any option to spice things up. One such limitation is niche.
Are you on a boring niche? Sometimes you are just helpless. Your business or niche is plain and simple – boring.
This is when your creativity is tested. You have to come up with a content plan that is on-topic and informational and yet interesting. One of the easier ways to do this is to look at the parent niche, the broader niche and find inspiration.
No niche is an island – you just need to work harder and achieve your targets.
