Is content marketing the new SEO? According to Brian Newmark it is

The New SEO requires natural links.

Or as natural as you can make it look.

Remember – it is the search engines for which you optimize. So, if the search engines declare your links to be non-natural, even if they were naturally acquired – it will make no difference. That is to say – your natural links should not just be natural, but they should look natural as well.

Even if you buy links – and they look natural, it will be ok. But if you get some free and absolutely natural links – but they look paid – then there will be a problem with the search engines. In a world where the Google search engine holds 49 cards of a deck out of 52 – you have little choice but to work according to their rules. Content marketing is very much the new SEO – because it has everything that the search engines need – from great content to natural backlinks and even social shares.

Here are 5 reasons why content marketing is the New SEO.

ID-10073080

Reason 1 – Flagship Content.

Flagship content refers as the best content that you want to showcase and present to your readers or advertisers. This content boosts your reputation and builds your brand.

Content Marketing requires excellent content to start with. The content can be in any form, but it will require great research, correct statistics, great presentation and design etc. This step is alone enough to make a point as to why content marketing is the future. In the past anything used to rank – due to less competition, poor search engine Algorithms etc. The new SEO requires quality content as the first requirement.

Reason 2 – Social Shares

Social shares are now a ranking signal. Even though the search engines might not openly accept – but social signals helps to boost SERPS.

When a content marketing campaign goes well – it bring with it plenty of social votes and shares. It can be from sites including Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Pinterest – or from a few specific niche social sites like Care2 or Reddit. These signals are treated as trusted signs by search engines.

Reason 3 – Natural Backlinks

Great content will always attract links. Editors, writers, authors, bloggers – they all look for something good to share with their audience. If your piece of content is really that brilliant and if you have done enough promotion on it – then getting backlinks will surely come naturally.

With content marketing – you do not build links, you earn them. Yes, you do build some – as you need your content to be out there – but once it is there and influential eyes starts to notice your content – from there getting natural links is easy and it goes on almost auto pilot from there. You get a mention from a major publication more influential eyes sees it which keep pushing the viral effect.

Reason 4 – Natural Anchors

This is one of the best things about content marketing – you get the best and the most natural anchors for your backlinks. You don’t decide on the anchor text – so naturally the editor does. This brings a natural touch to your anchors – and it really works. Don’t ask for links, don’t suggest anchors – put your best content forward and promote it hard. Then wait for the natural mentions and links. With these natural links – you will get the most natural looking anchors.

Reason 5 – Old SEO is Dead

The Old SEO is Dead – it just does not work anymore. If anything – it mostly backfires and causes more trouble.

The problem with the internet in general is that there is plenty of information that is outdated – and most guides related to SEO have run their course and are useless now. They used to work, – but in the post Hummingbird days, they are no longer relevant. SEO is dynamic and it changes pretty quickly. One needs to update him or herself with the current trends.

At this moment – if you try to do anything else, that content marketing does not suggest – then you are going to be at a loss. Cheap content no longer works. If you try this strategy you will more than likely do more harm than good.

If you try to build cheap links there will be three main issues. You will get links from low quality sites with poor content. Your anchors will look both stupid and spam. Your site will be among some of the worst neighbourhoods on the internet.

Old style SEO was mostly spam with little value towards searchers. Most who utilized the strategies did it with the hope of not getting caught. With content marketing, that is no longer the case. Now you need great content and you need to put it on display in front of your audience. No sneaky strategies or black hat practices – but pure quality all round.

Content marketing is the future – if you want to future proof your business, go for content marketing and skip the old school SEO.

I like to think content marketing is a very vital part to online marketing. SEO is an amazing way to grab free traffic, marketing our content and creating backlink for increased SEO is of most importance. Also as I tell all my clients, if you’re not going to market the content, don’t waste the time creating it.

Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers? I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?
