How I Make Content Marketing Look So Easy, by Brian Newmark

Content marketing is easy.

Content marketing is quick.

It’s a complete process in itself and provides absolute success in marketing your brand.

So, what is the catch?

It’s how you approach it, how you strategize and implement it. Content marketing can be very easy if done properly from the start without making any mistakes. In this article, we will discuss the step by step process of making a content marketing campaign look easy.

1) Analyze your business:

Your content marketing strategy should benefit your business, so the first thing we need to do is to analyze it.
If there are any cause based events that fall under your niche, you can actively engage in those. Look into other areas of your business that can be used to highlight. Even personal success and other case studies do well as part of the content marketing process. Overall, anything motivational is ok.

2) Building the content:

This is the real work. You need to plan your content well. The entire success of your content marketing campaign depends on this step. Content should be related to your business, but not on your business. You need natural content which is related to your business in some way. You need a unique angle; it must be interesting and overall good to read. Should have a purpose and solve some problems. If the content is motivational, it is even better.

There are three primary requirements of a content that is built for content marketing purpose. Firstly, you need people to read it. Then, after reading they should share it. And finally, you need them to convert on an email list and subscribe somehow. With content marketing, you do not need to sell anything upfront but you do need them to subscribe somehow so that you can use those connections later.

3) Using the launch pads:

When the content is ready, you need a launch pad to promote it. If you don’t have anything of your own, then perhaps using guest blogging can be a good alternative to promote your content. However, this step can be both difficult and expensive.
Getting things off the ground is the hard part and that is why you need some active social profiles of your own. Here’s a list of things you should work on for launching a successful content marketing strategy.

  • An active blog.
  • An active and engaged email list.
  • Strong following on the social media and strong social profiles.
  • Connections to influential people on the social media and blogosphere.

4) Promoting it some more:

Once the campaign takes off nicely and people start to share it on the social media and suggest it to their friends, you need to work on that extra promotional step.

  • Buy social ads from the official advertisement system available for facebook, linkedin, stumbleupon, reddit etc.
  • Do PPC ads like adwords.
  • Buying solo ads. Newsletters are great for promoting content. You can buy newsletter advertisements from people who maintain active email subscribers.
  • Do guest blogging actively on strong A-list blogs and media websites.
  • If you want to do more, try press release and distribute it to the widest possible media sites.

5) Taking it slow:

If the primary purpose of your content marketing campaign was to build links, it is time to slow things a bit.
Too many backlinks and too quickly is never a great combination. You need to analyze your backlinks, see if people are linking to you from good sites or not.

6) Fixing issues:

If you find that your backlink numbers have gone up and some of those incoming links are not that good, start sending emails and ask those sites to nofollow the backlink. Explain them how to nofollow your link as some of them might not understand the technicality. It’s best to start taking precautions rather than wait for the search engines to start sending warnings. Check and analyze your backlinks yourself and don’t wait for things to turn ugly.

Check for other issues as feedback is something that you must start to get by now. See if the content requires some fixing or perhaps some moderation. There will be comments on the blog posts and the social media, see if people are suggesting, complaining or giving ideas. Take necessary steps.

7) Re-strategizing everything:

If everything is all right, let it just run. Else, it is time for re-strategizing. If things haven’t gone well, or perhaps some or more of it backfired, there is no need to panic. Start looking into things that are not working and stop them. See what has worked and start to do more of it.

8) Rinse and Repeat:

It is time to do it all again. Whatever good that you discovered from this campaign, re-do it all and keep doing it.
Content marketing is really easy, especially when you keep doing it.
