8 Tips to get more downloads on your mobile app, by Brian Newmark

The days of the laptops are nearing an end as the dawn of cell phones is heading towards a bright sunny day.

No matter how broke someone is, they still have a cell phone and internet connection to browse your websites.

However, simply having a mobile responsive site is no longer enough, to beat the completion and stay ahead; one must look to get their mobile apps downloaded by their end users.

Here, in this article, we will discuss several ways by which one can get more downloads to their mobile apps.

1) Build your app:

There are mainly two broad formats for mobile apps, one is IOS and another is Android. If your app is compatible on both, you are already on your way to the next step.

For the features and functionality, your app should do the basic tasks of your business easily so that your customers don’t have to login to your site to complete whatever they wanted to do on the app.

Once the app is all set and bug free, it is time to get on with the marketing.

2) Organic Social Media:

Organic social media is the ultimate marketing platform for merit. If your app solves a problem, has benefits for the users that are going to use it, it can go viral on the social media. There is a big chance that a helpful and useful app can go viral and get a lot of shares and likes on the social media.

Organic needs to be natural and conversational. Check some of the related hashtags that are popular and get the conversation started on some of those. That will bring a lot of interested social fans to your mobile app.

3) PPC for Social Media:

With sites like facebook and twitter, there is enough option available for pushing your app on the social media with paid advertisements.

Sponsored story ads on facebook are particularly helpful when it comes to promoting apps via paid social ads. Along with that, regular keyword based PPC on facebook and twitter is also helpful to increase downloads.

4) Contest:

Contest can bring in the buzz that advertisements can’t.

In the rules of the contest, make the download of your app as a must do and that every participant to the contest has to download your app.

There are several contest directories where your contest can be promoted. That way your contest will generate a lot of traffic and most part of that audience will start with downloading your app.

5) Press Release:

A well written press release about your app with a news twist can really spread news about your app to mainstream media. The success of your press release will greatly depend on how well it is promoted. However, even with decent promotions, it is quite easy to reach Google or Yahoo news sections.

6) Sponsor events:

With so many contests and events going on in the Internet that there is no end to sponsorship opportunities. Just track down something that is related to your app and sponsor it.

7) Guest Posts:

When it comes to getting a word out, there is nothing on the internet that is better than blogs.

Check the niche of your blog and see how many related a-list blogs are available on your niche. Going slightly off topic won’t hurt either as it is not about links but downloads to your app.

Generally, on popular blogs, they have a very loyal audience that is ready to buy, download or subscribe to anything that they recommend. Try to land a guest post on few such blogs and your downloads to your mobile app will start to increase.

8) Email newsletters:

Generally, catching a user on the first attempt and getting him to take an action is pretty difficult. Whatever be the source of traffic most users will leave without download. They do not necessarily hate the app, they just ignore it.

Once you start to remarket them, some of them will start converting with each attempt. This is where a newsletter comes in handy. The news letter must contain important information so that it builds an interest in the minds of your subscribers and once in a while, give them a link to download your app.

When a user comes to your website from a mobile device, suggest them to download your mobile app. It should not be forceful, rather mention that the app will speed up their browsing speed of your website and make things easier for them. Most people who use your website regularly will start to download your app. Once your app starts to generate a buzz, that is when it gets viral and get a lot more downloads from the social effects.

Getting more app downloads is a constant effort, it is a process and not an activity. The downloads will increase overtime giving you a long term benefit.

Great write up on how to get users for your app. We basically come across similar questions raised by our clients who uses Quximo Appbuilder to build an app. Most importantly clients who build an app must have tools to market their app, there are many review sites also to market their app.
